Phase 1 Located on the campus of the University of Limerick, the first phase of the Cappavilla development consists of 4 blocks of 3, 4 and 5 storey in height with 64 student apartments, incorporating 41 no. 6-bedroom units, 16 no. 4-bedroom units and 7 no. 2-bedroom units. The development also includes a reception and management suite, a manager's residence, laundry facilities, retail units, and car, bus and bicycle parking facilities for 80 cars and 10 coaches. The structure is comprised of structural steel frames on piled foundations, precast concrete floors with timber external walls, clad with natural cedar brick and render. Located within a live University Campus the project was carried out under strict environmental constraints with regard to working hours, noise and dust emissions and access. Phase 2 The second phase of this residential development was the fourth scheme carried out in succession for the University of Limerick bringing the total number of beds provided by Brian McCarthy Contractors to approximately 1500. This phase includes 176 ensuite bedrooms in 3 no. 5 storey blocks. Again, the structures are comprised of structural steel with precast concrete floors. One innovation brought to this latest phase is the introduction of prefabricated bathroom pods. Extensive use of cedar cladding is a striking feature of this scheme. |
