This project entailed the construction of a17 storey Hotel on a prominent, centrally located site in Limerick City. It is a highly unusual building, not only because of its height (it was at the time of completion the third highest building in Ireland) but also because it partially overhangs the old quay wall. The building's dramatic appearance is accentuated by the fact that it is elliptical on plan. The structure is almost entirely composed of insitu reinforced concrete 'flat slab' floors, columns, with reinforced concrete stairwells and lift shafts providing stability. The external walls of the majority of the building are clad in high specification metal panels, on steel sheeting rails, with an integrated aluminium window system. The front of the hotel has a strip of curtain walling running almost the entire height of the building. The hotel comprises of 93 bedrooms with bars, restaurant and leisure facilities, all of which were fully fitted out at handover. The upper floors accommodate 29 apartments. |
