This project comprised of the erection of a new 124 bedroom hotel, including double basement car park/leisure treatment facilities, bar, restaurant, kitchen, entrance foyer, at a city centre location adjacent to South Mall/Parnell Place, Cork.

The works involved the construction of a 5 storey hotel over double basement in a very restricted location. The safe construction of the double basement in close proximity to the River Lee presented a number of significant challenges. We liaised closely with the Design Team and implemented an appropriate solution involving a full perimeter secant pile wall, ground water control including both pumping and recharge wells, temporary propping over 2 levels, and waterproofing to the full basement area. Separately on site, we monitored vibrations from construction activities and monitored any secant piling and propping movements, ensuring that all were kept within acceptable limits. The hotel structure was constructed using a mix of reinforced concrete lower floors and lift shafts with steelwork and precast floors being used on the upper levels. The completed hotel has a large number of impressive features including vertical limestone cladding with some curved and sloping elevations, stainless steel paneling to internal courtyards, extensive glazing to upper floors and link corridors.
