This was a 7,000m² highly serviced fit-out undertaken within two buildings incorporating Homewares, Drapery, Grocery, their associated Stockrooms, plant/switchrooms and Administration staff area’s over a 14 week period. This work involved extensive coordination of mechanical, electrical, sprinkler, refrigeration, coldstore services, retail shelf paneling , etc. The early procurement of both these contracted works and client direct supply contractors proved a key role in the timely completion of the project. To achieve the tight programme duration, specific management procedures were put in place to ensure trades worked within clearly defined areas for specific durations. With more than 30 direct supply contractors and suppliers on site, the close co-ordination, and close relationship with them, was critical to the seamless integration of their elements within the overall programme. The Administration areas consisted of over 650m² of offices, training, canteen and highly secure cash handling area with 'air-lock' secure lobby. High levels of finishes included solid ash joinery, doors and dado rails, with quality vinyl and ceramics to wet areas. Lighting and fire protection services were installed in a series of 'ceiling rafts' and bulkheads on the main retail floors. Specialist wall finishes, mostly imported, were sourced and applied to the key focal points within the general retail areas. Areas requiring particular attention included the delicatessen area, bakery, and the frozen and chill areas on the shop floor. A phased handover of the building was agreed with the client to allow goods to be delivered and stacked on the shelving and staff to be trained, as final areas were completed. |
