This project entailed a 2,979m² major refurbishment of an existing 19th Century listed building of national importance carried out in an urban/residential environment. Works consisted of the removal of the existing lime plaster while retaining the period mouldings which were intact, and replacing the damaged sections, removal of the existing pitch pine flooring and reinstatement of same following floor structure strengthening and fire proofing works. We also removed and refurbished the existing box sash windows, refurbished and fire proofed the original panel doors and refurbished and adapted the courtroom seating to allow for disabled access. A new mezzanine floor was introduced in one section to provide additional office space. The basement area had an internal water proofing membrane introduced and provided space for a new family law courtroom. The finishing works consisted of extensive use of lime plaster with the application of a specialist heritage type paint finish. Floor finishes include naturally locally sourced limestone flooring to public areas. |
